The shop phone sits by the door and rings through to the bench. If the planer is running no one will hear it, so leave a message and Daniel will call back in the evening.
About the Shop
Schlabach Cabinetry has been building kitchens out of a shop behind the house on Bloomingport Road since 1987. Daniel Schlabach started out making furniture and moved into cabinets when a neighbor asked him to fit out a kitchen nobody else would measure properly. He still builds every job to the room rather than to a catalog of box sizes, which is why an out of square farmhouse wall does not trouble him.
The shop runs on hardwood: cherry, hickory, red and white oak, hard maple, and occasionally walnut when a customer brings their own logs. Doors are cope and stick or raised panel, drawer boxes are solid wood with hand cut dovetails at the front corners, and drawers ride on wooden runners or full extension steel slides depending on what the customer wants to pay for. Daniel will talk you out of a finish he does not trust rather than warranty it.
He works alone with one son helping through the winter, and he takes on roughly a dozen kitchens a year. That means a wait, and he will tell you the wait honestly before he takes a deposit. Measuring is done in person, twice, and the second visit happens after the drywall is up because a room is never the size the plans said it was.

How They Work
Know this before you call
- Lead time
- Four to seven months from deposit to installation. He takes about a dozen kitchens a year and will not stack more than that, so the wait is real and he quotes it honestly up front.
- Measuring and quotes
- Two visits: one to talk through the room and one to measure after the drywall is finished. Quotes are written by hand and come back inside two weeks. There is no charge for either visit inside the service radius.
- Payment
- Check or cash. One third at the order, one third when the doors are hung in the shop, the balance on installation.
- Counters, plumbing, and appliances
- Cabinets and wood tops only. Stone counters are templated by a shop in Richmond after his boxes are set. He does not move plumbing or install appliances, and he will coordinate dates with whoever does.

He will drive farther for a whole house, but for a single vanity he would rather point you to a shop closer to home than charge you for the trip.
