About this directory

Why these shops are hard to find

Many of the businesses listed here are Amish and Plain owned shops in Indiana and Ohio. They do not have websites or email addresses, because they do not use the internet or the electricity it runs on.

That means the usual ways of finding a builder, a cabinet shop, or a metal roofer do not turn them up. This site exists so that people looking for that work can find out who these shops are, what they build, and where they are.

Every listing gives you a phone number that rings at the shop or at the phone the shop uses. You call them yourself, and you deal with them directly.

Printed annual

THE BARNJOURNAL

Once a year we print the directory as a book: the shops, the trades, the towns, and photographs of the work they finished that year. It is a real thing you can hold, keep in the truck, and hand to a neighbor who is about to build something.
